Armageddon

What is Armageddon?

Armageddon is actually a battle. According to the Bible it’s the battle where God finally comes in and takes over the world and rules it the way it should have been ruled all along. After Armageddon comes 1000 years of peace and plenty.

The reason it’s called Armageddon is because it is in a place called the valley of Megiddo in modern day Israel. Armageddon means mount of Megiddo in Hebrew.

Mayan Calendar

The abrupt ending of the Mayan Long Count Calendar on December 21 2012 has been described as a prophecy of the end of an age and maybe the world. If the Mayan Calendar 2012 is not presented as a prophecy of the end of the world. The Mayan Calendar 2012 prophecy is just some people's interpretation; an interpretation that many do not believe. It also needs to be said that Mayan scholars themselves say this idea misrepresents Mayan history. They say that in the long count Mayan Calendar 2012 is not an end of the world doomsday calendar.

However, while it is quite a jump in logic and hard to prove a December 21 2012 doomsday from this calendar, is it still possible that the Mayan understanding of the universe and how it effects life on earth, still has something to teach us. Can it still help us to predict, if not to the day and year, catastrophic events yet to happen on earth?

After all, Mayan beliefs about the universe reflect similar but more detailed discoveries which modern day scientists have made as they observe the known universe today.

Scientific Beliefs
the Mayan Calendar 2012 may not be a doomsday, but can we still learn something from Mayan's understanding of the cyclic nature of our solar system as we move through the milky way galaxy. The Mayans speak of a dark rift or galactic plain. They say that the end of an age, which can bring about world wide catastrophes (but not the end of the world) is caused by the world sitting on what they call a dark rift. Modern scientists speak of the earth passing through this dark rift, or galactic equinox or central plain. This event refers to the cyclic and [according to some] destructive gravitational influence caused by the massive black hole at the centre of our galaxy [you will struggle to find a scientist who actually believes we are going to get sucked in by this black hole].

Some believe that this gravitational force is behind the increase in magnitude and frequency of earthquakes, floods etc which our world and other planets in the solar system are experiencing.

However, there is no evidence to suggest that these events will climax on December 21 2012 to bring about the end of the world. That said, there is still something you should be concerned about. .

Biblical Beliefs

According to Bible prophecy, destruction on the earth from earthquakes, famine, floods, disease are only the FIRST signs of something MORE terrible.

They are described as being like the first pangs of child birth and a reminder that something more fearful is on the horizon.

Why should you take Bible prophecy seriously. Here's one example why: at the birth of Christ, around 300 prophecies were fulfilled! Bible prophecies have a good track record. So when the Bible speaks of something more terrifying than catastrophic disasters like earthquakes and floods that kill 100's of thousands and even giant meteors, it is important to take note.

Mayan elders speak of transformation. They say that the hope of the future comes from within a person and that we are essentially, our own light. We just need to look within to find it.

Jesus Christ is recorded in the Bible as saying, "If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" (Matthew 6:23).

Also found on the lips of Jesus, "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." - Jesus Christ (John 3:19)

Earthquakes, Tsunami, and Bible Prophecy

Signs of the times...

The earthquake of south east Asia, and those of Haiti, and Chile, and most recently those of Christchurch, New Zealand, and North East Japan - what do they portend for our future? What is behind the sudden jump in seismic activity?

Notice this excerpt from the Tomorrow's World Magazine article entitled, WHY Human Suffering? by Dr. Roderick C. Meredith

"The very real God of the Bible is certainly hearing the literal "groans" of the suffering people of Southeast Asia. As they-and we-are deeply humbled by the awesome forces of creation that God has set in motion, we will begin to realize that human life apart from the true God is futile. This may seem "cruel" or "unfair" to those who lack understanding of the awesome power and glory that God has in mind for those who truly serve and obey Him. But it is often the only way human beings are willing and able to learn.
